“Now then, give me this hill country about which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that Anakim were there, with great fortified cities; perhaps the Lord will be with me, and I will drive them out as the Lord has spoken.” -Joshua 14:12
Perhaps. Maybe. Fingers crossed. It’s possible. Fate is on our side. Or, I will trust. I have faith. I believe.
Built on a promise, Caleb had courage to charge ahead despite the struggle, discomfort and challenge that was certain to stand in his way.
If he chose the easy way he could rely on his own strength. If he chose the difficult path he would have to rely on God to see him through.
One way met expectations. The other, exceeded them. Caleb was driven by the desire to experience the power of God to the fullest.
Would God show up? If he didn’t, Caleb would lose. If God came through, the power of a promise would prevail.
What promise has God given you? Are you operating under a premonition or a promise?
There is no guarantee of comfort in a calling. But when you act on a promise, your confidence is warranted and you can expect great things to take place.
Perhaps, is an honest perspective. God is not obligated to fulfill our desires. We must not presume any idea or notion on God. Nonetheless, when rooted in a promise, perhaps becomes a promise fulfilled.
We will face giants. They will be intimidating but greater is He that is within us. Caleb’s confidence and courage is a great reminder of how God uses those willing to step out of comfort and lean into uncertainty.
Perhaps God is calling you to a new level of trust where obedience is its own reward and the reality of His power is revealed in a deeply personal way.
Take courage! Believe in the promise. Waiting may be required. Timing matters. At the right time, step out into the uncertainty and expect the God of the universe to enter your world and exceed your expectations.
Think and Pray: Are you trusting God with the promises that He has made? If not, what is keeping you from doing so? Heavenly Father, help me to trust in Your promises as I seek to live this week to the fullest, following You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
